Reno's government must be accountable to the community that it represents. We have endured a culture of a City Council that prioritizes large corporate donors over actual citizens of Reno. A culture that not only does not advocate for our needs, but flat out ignores them. This is a system that needs to change, and it starts at the top. As Mayor, I will hold myself and all City Council Members accountable for listening to the voices of our constituents. My campaign does not accept non-local corporate donations, and I will not be beholden to any outside interest that de-priortize our city.

I live downtown. I work downtown. I walk my dog through the streets of downtown. I see every day the impact of neglect and irresponsible policy that has been imposed by the city's current leadership. Downtown Reno should be the pride of our community, not an afterthought. We must embrace the artistic community and the local entrepreneurs that are waiting to burst onto the scene. We cannot allow a property like Harrah's, the cornerstone of downtown Reno, to sit vacant for six years while it is passed around between outside investors with no clear plan for its future.

Reno needs more housing that people can actually afford. I’ll support smart development, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure long-term planning, not short-term fixes. We've adopted a policy of demolishing our history. Where are all of the nostalgic motel signs that used to adorn our downtown? And how have we accommodated the longtime residents of these lodgings? We will happily condemn the Lakemill Lodge, rather than addressing the underlying social issues, and do nothing to support the hundreds of residents who are being displaced.

Reno must adopt proactive policies to address the soaring congestion in our outlying communities. Constant construction of new lanes on our freeways is not working. We must develop a long-term plan that embraces public transportation: expanded bus and rail service. The gridlock on I-80 between Reno and USA Parkway is a direct result of the failure of our local government to foresee an imminently foreseeable problem. I will prioritize the streamlining of rail service to USA Parkway, with a larger goal of incorporating light rail throughout our community.

A stronger Reno starts with compassion and accountability. Our city's growth must stem from this basis. Growth is inevitable, and that is not a bad thing. By approaching it proactively, we can shape what our city becomes, in the image of our collective aspirations, rather than just complaining about how "these damn Californias are movin' in and ruinin' our city". This includes affordable housing focused on the local community, transportation that lessens our dependence on cars, and an embrace of environmental responsibility.

While striving to hear and respond to the voices of Reno on both ends of the spectrum, I will remain true to my personal values. I stand against fascism and imperialism. I will vocally oppose the policies of a US regime that spends hundreds of billions of dollars on a war of choice, while slashing the budgets of domestic social services. I stand against an executive who would make himself king. As Mayor, I will make no claim that my views on these issues represent Reno's collective zeitgeist, but nor will I mute my personal voice.
Your support and contributions will enable us to move forward with our plan to keep Reno real. Quirky on purpose.
